The image above represents an artist depiction of a Horse Park in Montery California. A horse park is a large-acreage, not-for-profit facility used primarily for horse shows and other livestock/agricultural events. A typical horse park is designed to attract regional, national and international competitions and does not compete with pari-mutuel horse racing. The main thrust of the New York Horse Park facility will be to provide the public with a wide range of equine activities which are informative, competitive and recreational in nature, such as clinics, seminars, demonstrations, programs for the handicapped, horse shows, cross country events, polo, dressage, hunt races, steeple chasing, rodeos, driving shows, combined driving marathons and trail riding. The New York Horse Park facility will also be available for a wide range of non-equine activities which are agricultural in nature. It is also feasible that the horse park could become the locale for prestigious national and international level equine competitions much like the Georgia International Horse Park which hosted the Equestrian Olympics in 1996 and the Kentucky Horse Park, slated to host the World Equestrian Games in 2010. The synergy of a horse park comes from the ability to offer all of these amenities in ONE location. A horse park needs the ability to host more than one competition per day/weekend and must be able to also attract large regional and national shows which would bring thousands of horses to the facility. Combined driving marathon courses run 3-15 kilometers in length and require 80 to 100 acres; cross-country eventing courses require approximately 80 acres. On top of that, there must also be acreage for permanent stalls. Many horse parks have 500 or more permanent stalls with some having over 1000 permanent stalls. To attract the large, multiple day shows a significant amount of acreage is needed, minimally 300 acres. There is currently NO OTHER STATE IN THE NORTHEAST with a horse park such as we envision, although these facilities do exist in other states. Make the dream real!
